KILLINGTON, Vt. - Jan. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports, the largest non-profit in Vermont to offer year-round sports and recreation statewide for people with disabilities, has been named one of five finalists in VSECU’s We Care 2 Program. VSECU, a credit union for all Vermonters, will donate $20,000 to two of the five finalists, based on credit union members voting for the charity of their choice.

Now in its third year running, the We Care 2 Program gives credit union members the opportunity to help direct donations that the VSECU Board of Directors has set aside to support communities and charitable organizations throughout Vermont.

The 2013 We Care 2 Program received 49 applications from charities from across the state of Vermont for consideration to be selected as one of the five finalists by VSECU’s Community Contributions Committee. VSECU members will now have the opportunity to vote and select two of the final five to each receive a $10,000 donation.

“We are honored to be selected as one of the finalists for this program,” said Erin Fernandez, executive director of Vermont Adaptive. “Vermont Adaptive relies on grants, donations and funding for its operating budget, which in turn is used for expensive adaptive equipment and our year-round programs. We never turn anyone away based on one’s ability to pay. We want every body to enjoy the outdoors here in Vermont. Being awarded the $10,000 would help contribute to these important aspects of our organization. I hope VSECU members will consider supporting us by voting for Vermont Adaptive as we impact all Vermonters regardless of where they live in the state—that includes our athletes as well as our volunteers.”

The five finalists have until mid-March to rally support and try to earn VSECU membership votes through their social media and other communication channels. The voting ballot for the finalists will be included with the Annual Meeting Notice that will be delivered to VSECU members in early February. Between now and then members are being encouraged to learn as much as possible about these organizations so they are ready to cast their vote when the ballot arrives.

Representatives from the final five charities will be attending the VSECU Annual Meeting on March 11 to mingle with members and answer questions about their organizations and the valuable services they provide to Vermonters. Each of the organizations will also participate in the check presentation, which is set to take place at the close of the Annual Meeting.

VSECU is a not for profit banking alternative for all Vermonters, which offers a full range of affordable financial products and services to its member owners. People eligible to join the credit union include everybody who lives or works in Vermont. For more information about VSECU, call 802.371.5162 or visit www.vsecu.com.
