Why All Certified Pre-Owned Warranties Are Not Created Equal

Certified Pre-Owned vehicles are a smart option to bridge the gap between purchasing a new vehicle or a used vehicle.

LOS ANGELES - Jan. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- How do certified pre-owned warranties differ?

A large motivator for purchasing a certified pre-owned vehicle is to secure an additional warranty that comes with it.  So how do you know which warranty is best?  Are all certified pre-owned vehicle warranties created equal?  Certainly not, lets take a look at some of the differences and what you can do to determine the best purchase for you.

Manufacturer (OEM) Certified Pre-Owned Programs

Don’t be fooled by dealerships labeling vehicles as “certified”.  Only if the vehicle is part of an original manufacturer certified pre-owned program has it been rigorously tested using manufacturer set guidelines.  Dealerships have access to third party certification programs that may or may not provide any real value.  Manufacturer certified pre-owned vehicles provide the ease of being serviced at any dealership nationwide that is part of that brand, whereas, generic certification programs many times require the vehicle be serviced at the dealership in which it was purchased.

Transfer of New Car Powertrain Warranty and Bumper-To-Bumper Extension

Many OEM certified programs offer what is left on the original new car powertrain warranty and add in a shorter bumper-to-bumper warranty.

No Transfer of New Car Powertrain

Some OEM certified programs choose not to allow the transfer of the original powertrain warranty and simply include a new bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Other Perks

Most manufacturers include several other perks to purchasing a certified pre-owned vehicle.  Many of these perks may include:

·     Roadside assistance

     Discounted maintenance programs

·     Lower interest rates

·     And more!

While a manufacturer certified pre-owned vehicle can be a very smart choice and bridge the gap between new and used vehicle purchases, make sure you know what you are purchasing.  Consider your lifestyle, the use of the vehicle, and whether or not the warranty program provided by the manufacturer fits your needs.  Work with the dealership to negotiate what will work for you.  If one manufacturers program does not fit your needs consider another brand.  Find what works for you and get ready to negotiate price with the dealership.
