Forward Charles Smith (Newark, NJ) finished with 11 points and 12 boards to go along with 2 blocks. Guard Keon Lawrence (Newark, NJ) tallied 19 points and three assists, doing most of his damage at the free-throw line, where he finished 6-for-7. Guards Donald Hennie (Hackensack, NJ) and Jason Smith (Paterson, NJ) scored 14 and 15 points respectively. Hennie added three assists and one steal while Smith led the team with five assists.
As important as it was for the Express to display that kind of balance on the offensive end of the floor, it was Jersey Express’s defensive effort that proved to be the difference in the game. The Express’ constant pressure resulted in 14 Vipers turnovers.
Antoine O. finished with a double-double for the Vipers. Antoine scored 30 points with 18 boards, while Rashad C. finished with 19 and 3.12 of his 19 points were from 3-point range. Vipers 66 rebounds were the most for an Express opponent this season.
The Express are now 6-1 and will be looking forward to take on the undefeated Richmond Elite from Virginia on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Weequahic High School located at 279 Chancellor Ave. Newark. There will be a special Halftime Dance Competition. Admission is only $10. Tip off on Saturday is scheduled for 5 p.m.
