SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Jan. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- This award is given annually to exemplary individuals who have made a difference in the prevention of child abuse in Sonoma County.

This year’s nominations will be based on the 5 protective factors of the strengthening families approach. The five protective factors are: parental resilience, social connections, concrete support in times of need, knowledge of parenting and child development, and social and emotional competence of children. Studies support that when these factors are well established in a family, the likelihood of child abuse and neglect diminishes.

To nominate an individual for the 2014 blue ribbon award please visit http://preventchildabuse-sonomacounty.org/awards to download the nomination form or email anneb@calparents.org to have one emailed to you. Nominations will close on February 28, 2014.

This year’s award(s) will be presented at the Blue Ribbon training and luncheon on April 24, 2014 at the Mary Agatha Furth Center in Windsor and feature guest speaker Richard Guerry, Executive Director of the Institute for Responsible Online and Cell Phone Communications. His presentation Public and Permanent: How to Prevent Cyber Bullying, Sexting, and Social Media Abuse & Other Cyber Issues is a multi-award winning program and provides awareness of negative irresponsible, and malicious digital behaviors and the method to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of cyber-crime, cyberbullying, and digital exploitation.
