Waterproof Kyocera Smartphone Without Contract

A new rugged waterproof smartphone from Kyocera now without contract made available via wireless carrier TIng.

PRLog - Jan. 22, 2014 - HILLSBORO, Ore. -- Suitable for the outdoors under most any weather conditions, this Kyocera Hydro Edge smartphone provided via Ting is less than $200 without contract and currently listed at $163 with the $25 Ting coupon. This cellphone is a good solid mid-range smartphone that won’t cost a fortune and is also waterproof for up to 3 feet for 30 minutes. It’s a nice feature to have and not worry about ruining a cellphone due to weather.

Either in a downpour or dropped in water, this smartphone should keep on working and keep the 1600 mAh batter powering the 1Ghz Dual Core Snapdragon cpu for an entire day. The Kyocera Hydro Edge smartphone also comes with 1GB RAM and runs on the Ice Cream Sandwich, Android 4.1 Operating System. Capable of 3G data high-speed Internet wherever there is 3G availability which means download speeds of about 500Kbps or more and at peak rates can reach up to 2 Mbps. There is no 4G LTE capability of this phone however.

There is a decent 4 inch display with 800x480 resolution and a 5 Megapixel camera that will also stay safe and dry from the elements and accepts microSD cards of up to 32GB’s so there is no risk of running out of space with those photos and videos any time soon. The Kyocera smartphone is IP57 certified which means it will be protected from dust and even submersions in water, so it is not just rain proof. While it will not appeal to those looking for the latest and best smartphones, it will still apply to those that just need something smarter than a feature phone or flip phone and the weather proof feature will appeal to those that don’t want to come back from a trip with a cellphone that broke because of the weather or unfortunate accident. The smartphone also has an impact resistant screen that can take a bit of a beating even though there will be a few scratches and scuff marks should the phone be dropped anywhere.

There is another review of this cellphone at Cnet which has a more detailed review regarding call quality and download speeds. They give it a rating of 3 out of 5 stars which translates to a “good” smartphone for the price. It is a good value smartphone if the water resistant feature is important to the buyer and the upfront cost of a no contract cellphone needs to be kept under $200. A faster or more capable phone will easily cost more, but for some people more expensive is not always better, especially when keeping cost in mind.
