By: The Morris County Arts Workshop (MCAW) “Icy winter may be here, but at The Hive in Chester and in our local schools, things are truly hopping,” explains MCAW Director Jane Shatz. “Students are enjoying a full array of music, art, theater, Legos, singing, video game design, fencing and Robotics to name a few during the after school programs.” Shatz further explains at The Hive, Winter Classes include pottery, art, cooking and group music lessons to name a few. “We just hosted our first Paint and Wine for adults 21 and older and it was a big success,” states Shatz. “We plan to host it monthly so more budding artists can create their own version of a classic painting while socializing and sipping BYO wine or beer. We also offer a wide range of drawing, art, film, writing and music courses designed especially for teens. It’s not too late to join the fun.” The popular Open Mic Night at The Hive is back for the New Year. According to coordinator Elise Shatz, it will run one Saturday a month from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. “We invite performers age 13 and up to come and share their talents whether it be music, poetry, comedy or storytelling,” Other MCAW activities include the Science of Art and Clay at the annual Chester Science Fair on March 1, 2014, a special Spring Break Camp from April 14 to 18, 2014 and the popular Summer Camp Programs which offer traditional summer fun, as well as programs designed for arts and sciences including MindCraft and Robotics. The Summer Camps will run from June 30 to August 22, 2104. For complete class schedules and availability, Hive Happenings, and to register, please visit www.mcartsworkshop.com.
