CHICAGO - Jan. 22, 2014 - PRLog -- From Beginning for Beginner to Bow Wow Boot Camp, everyone is invited to a New Leash on Life™  event from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The Anti-Cruelty Society on Saturday, February 15, 2014.

K9 Fit Club®, the human/canine fitness experts and the Nation’s premiere human/canine fitness company, will be bringing their gym and workouts to The Anti-Cruelty Society. Participants can enjoy a sampling of the classes, talk to the K9 Fit Club expert trainers, team, and more. K9 Fit Club classes combine cardio, strength and stability training with basic obedience moves. Their programs range from novice to intermediate and advanced.

A recent study from the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention reports that not only are more pets overweight, but also that those with the problem are getting fatter. With more than 41 million, or approximately 57% of dogs over the normal weight, a long list of health dangers comes with the excess weight. These can include high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes and some cancers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine, which cites the association's annual study, said the diseases seen among obese pets are eerily similar to those reported for people.

“With not enough exercise and poor nutrition, not only have we become unhealthy, we have made our dogs unhealthy,” says Dr. Robyn Barbiers, President of The Anti-Cruelty Society.

K9 Fit Club is committed to building programs and communities dedicated to getting, and keeping, both dogs and owners healthy. K9 Fit Club programs were developed by personal trainers, veterinarians, dog trainers, doctors and certified dog behaviorists, and have been featured on the Today Show, Dateline News, FOX News, Women’s Health, Dog Fancy and the Washington Post.

Not only will participants have the opportunity to participate in the workouts, raffle prizes will also be offered from a host of dog-fit-friendly companies, including FitPAWS®, Dog Tread®, Canine Gym Gear®, and Walk in Sync™. The first 50 participants will also receive a K9 Fit Club Woof Bag filled with all kinds of kibbles and bits.
