“Zulu Dreams” author shares his struggles and triumphs with Guy Dawson

Las Vegas, NV (January 20th, 2014) – PR Connections radio is excited to announce this week’s guest Richman Mahlangu.  Mahlangu is the author of “Zulu Dreams: From Apartheid to The Ivy League”.  His story speaks of the struggle of overcoming cultural adversity and how the game of tennis became his ticket to a new life, in a new world.  Richman will be discussing his story of success with PR Connections host, Guy Dawson, on Wed January 22nd at 1:00pm on KLAV 1230AM and klav1230am.com.

Mahlangu’s story begins in South Africa in a small village called Dannhauser.  He lived on a farm and was the youngest of five children.  His life and the life of his family were not easy, and it became immensely more difficult for them with the sudden passing of his father when Richman was only thirteen.

Even with all of the obstacles Mahlangu faced, he knew at a very young age he wanted to move to America and rescue his family from the apartheid of South Africa. The same year he lost his father was the year that Mahlangu discovered his love and passion for tennis.  It was this passion that would help him achieve his goal of reaching America.  He studied hard and practiced tennis three to four hours everyday after school.  It was this hard work and dedication that earned him a tennis scholarship to the University of Nevada where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree.  He later attended UNLV to complete his Masters Degree in Education Psychology.

Mahlangu’s book, “Zulu Dreams” is something that he always knew he wanted to write.  He wanted people to understand his struggle and how important education is in achieving one’s goals. He feels that it can be the key to escaping poverty.  “I hope Zulu Dreams will influence other kids during their struggles, and that it will promote the importance of education,” said Mahlangu.

Mahlangu has learned so many valuable lessons throughout his journey. When asked about some of the best advice he has received, he spoke of Peter Feigl. A holocaust survivor and an author, Feigl believes that you are the captain of your own ship.  “You do not have to be the victim of circumstances, Mahlangu said. “People have the ability to overcome their situations.” Mahlangu is a true example of this.

Mahlangu is looking forward to being a guest on PR Connections for the opportunity to tell his story.  With the recent passing of Nelson Mandela it is important that people not forget his struggles and the struggles of the people of South Africa.  “Zulu Dreams” is a true story of the triumph over poverty and circumstance.  It is this story that he hopes will influence listeners to read his book and reach for their dreams!

If you have questions for Richman Mahlangu or just want your comments to be heard, call into the show at (702) 731-1230 or toll free at 1(866) 820-5528 Wednesday, January 22nd from 1pm to 2pm.
