Valley dentist urges kids to show their teeth some love this Valentine’s Day

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- PHOENIX, Ariz. – Jan. 21 2014 – Tooth decay affects more American kids than any other chronic infectious disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control. As part of National Children’s Dental Health Month, local Valley dentist Dr. John Dougherty is working to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.

“Learning good dental hygiene habits at a young age sets kids up for a lifetime of tooth and gum health, saving money, time and unnecessary pain down the road,” Dr. Dougherty said. “I’m asking parents and kids to take a few moments in February to show their teeth a little extra love.”

Untreated tooth decay can lead to infections, and may even hurt child growth and development. In celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month, the American Dental Association is urging kids to “Join the Super Smile Team,” by brushing two minutes, twice a day. As a member of the American Dental Association, Artistic Dental is offering parents and kids access to fun activity sheets and games that encourage dental health.

“I have two small daughters, and I know how important it is to make toothbrush time fun,” Dr. Dougherty said. “Parents can do that by playing or singing songs or making up stories. Anything that makes those two minutes fly by.”
