MIDLOTHIAN, Texas - Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ken Cope today unveiled a five-point "Contract with Texas" as a guarantee that he will keep his campaign pledges.

Cope, a retired Army officer and businessman from Midlothian, is challenging Sen. John Cornyn in the March 4 Republican primary. He said his Contract with Texas will assure voters that he is serious about the promises he has made.

The five key points of the Contract, which can be found on the CopeTexas (http://www.copetexas.com/) website, are:

Self-imposed two-term limit, with a call for other candidates to do the same

Strict campaign donation policy, in which he would only accept campaign donations for re-election for 18 months prior to the 2020 election.

No votes on further debt limit increases

Repeal and replacement of Obamacare

Pledge to read every piece of legislation thoroughly before voting for it

"I consider myself a New Breed of Republican, not a politician," Cope said. "I don't want a political career, and I want to minimize the effect of money in politics. Those key points as well as my promise to read all legislation, stop the increase in the national debt, and repeal Obamacare are my solemn promises to the voters of Texas."

Cope added that he understands that voters are skeptical about campaign promises, which is why he put these pledges into a formal contract.

"As I say in the contract, if I violate any of these pledges – which I won't – I would expect the people of Texas to demand that I step down. I would deserve it for failing and disappointing them," Cope said.

"It's time for the people we put into office to stand on their integrity and stand behind the promises they make. That is the essence of true leadership, which is what I will bring to Washington," he declared.

Information about the Contract and Cope's positions on the issues confronting Texans and all of America can be found at the campaign website, www.CopeTexas.com, and the Facebook page, www.facebook.com/copetexas. Cope is also on Twitter at @CopeTexas.
