Author-Historian Jay Wertz to speak at the 9th Annual Sarasota WWII Conference

LOS ANGELES - Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Author-Historian Jay Wertz will be a guest speaker at the 9th Annual Sarasota World War II Conference, being held at the Helmsley Sandcastle Hotel, 1540 Benjamin Franlin Drive, on Lido Beach, Sarasota, Florida, beginning Wednesday 7pm, January 29th through Saturday Noon, February 1, 2014.

Mr. Wertz, a first-time presenter at the conference, will be discussing The Marianas Campaign – Saipan, Tinian and Guam, on Thursday, January 30th, 2014, from 8:30am-9:30am.

“I’m honored to be speaking at this distinguished historical event,” says Mr. Wertz, “and look forward to meeting with other World War II enthusiasts, as well as many veterans, and educators.”

The 9th Annual Sarasota World War II Conference features an impressive group of military historians and World War II veterans, all gathered to honor and show gratitude to all who served in the United States Military, particularly in 1941-1945. Other presenters include such notables as Col. Robert J. Dalessandro, Chief of Military History at the United States Army Center at Fort McNair; Edwin C. Bearss, historian emeritus of the National Park Service, and Author Bruce Gamble, a leading authority on the air war in the Pacific.

Jay Wertz is the author of six books including two-award winning volumes in the WAR STORIES series, World War II Firsthand: D-Day: The Campaign Across Franceand The Pacific: Volume One – Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal, as well as his latest release The Pacific: Volume Two – The Solomons to Saipan. His other books include The Native American Experience, The Civil War Experience 1861-1865, and co-author of Smithsonian's Great Battles and Battlefields of the Civil War. His television credits include the award-winning 13-part documentary series Smithsonian's Great Battles of the Civil War.
