PRLog - Jan. 21, 2014 - The 19th National Television Awards take place on Wednesday 22nd January, and will be broadcast live on ITV from the 02 Arena. The betting markets show it could be a good night for the channel according to leading odds comparison website easyodds.com.
Julie Hesmondhalgh looks set to win for her performance as Hayley Cropper
The long running Manchester based soap Coronation Street is favourite to win Best Serial Drama, Ant and Dec look set to win Best Entertainment Presenter award and Downton Abbey looks set to pip Doctor Who to the Best Drama gong.
Editor of easyodds.com Simon Hopper said: “Whilst some people will be cynical in their thinking that ITV will have a good night on their own broadcast, the odds don’t lie and we are seeing plenty of money for their shows across the board.”
Coronation Street (4/9) looks certain to beat long term rival Eastenders to the Best Serial Drama gong – the Walford soap is a best price of 10/3. The performance of Julie Hesmondhalgh as cancer sufferer Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street has been nothing short of extraordinary and she is 1/10 to pick up the Best Serial Drama Performance award. The assisted suicide storyline has caused huge debate in the country and it will be a huge surprise if she doesn’t scoop the award.
Ant and Dec are set to win the Best Entertainment Presenter award (for the umpteenth time) and the bookies have priced them up at 1/10 to win yet another. To give you an idea of how likely they are to succeed, the other prices are huge – Dermot O’Leary (10/1), Keith Lemon (14/1) and Graham Norton at 14/1.
ITV may have a fight on their hands for Best Drama however, even if they are (yet again) favourites to pick up the award. Downton Abbey is a best price of 5/4. But the institution that is Doctor Who is close behind at a best price of 7/4. The excellently received Broadchurch is 3/1 and Call The Midwife is an outsider at 8/1.
