Vehicle Owners Can Take Steps to Lower Their Car Insurance Premiums

Auto insurance premiums are on the rise, according to recent government statistics.

Jan. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Government statistics show that the average increase of auto insurance rates across the states averaged out at approximately 2% in 2010, with 15 states experiencing increases of more than 5%.

Experts say that the part of the reason for rising insurance costs is due to increased auto insurance fraud, the prevalence of uninsured drivers, and poor credit scores.

While there is little that individuals can do to curb the trend of rising insurance costs, vehicle owners can take action to help keep their rates down.

Frank Hursh, owner of Texas Insurance Agency, says that vehicle owners can take steps to lower their auto insurance payments.

“With expenses increasing every year, saving money wherever you can is always a good idea,” Hursh says. “If you are looking for ways to save money on your car insurance, there are a few simple ways that you can save.”

Hursh says that asking your insurance provider about available discounts can be a great way to save. Often, insurance companies will offer customers discounts for good driving, low mileage, or even for having anti-theft devices installed in their vehicles. “Often, insurance companies will give you a discount for bundling your policies as well,” Hursh says.

Another way for motorists to save is by raising their deductibles -the amount that they would be responsible for paying when making a claim. The higher the deductible, the lower the payments will be. “Keep in mind though, that you shouldn’t raise your deductible higher than you can afford to,” Hursh reminds. “Try to decide how much you can afford to pay out of pocket, and then raise your deductible accordingly.”

Other ways to save include considering lower coverage for older vehicles, maintaining a good credit score, and paying for insurance ahead of the year, rather than in monthly instalments.

Often, customers do not take advantage of available discounts, because they are not aware of them. Every insurance agency is different, so vehicle owners should talk with their providers to learn more about available discounts.

“At Insurance Agency Texas, your one-stop Texas discount insurance shop, we strive to help our customers save money every day by educating them on the discounts and special offers available to them,” says Hursh.
