Lowell Thomas Tool announces New Heat Treater is On-line and Running

More in-house production improves quality control and supply snags for manufacturing and assembly at Lowelll Thomas Tool Inc.

BOZEMAN, Mont. - Jan. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- A recent upsurge in sales has resulted in Lowell Thomas Tool, Inc. being able to get its' in-house heat-treater on line. Part of the prodcution process for the JackClamp parallel bar clamp is the heat-treating of the main and upper bars as well as the brakes and triggers.

According to Lowell Thomas, the president and CEO of the company, the production of these parts has been contracted out for the past five years because of the lack of an adequate heat-treating process at the production facilities.

Mr. Thomas stated, "Due to the recent increase in sales and the inconsistency of out-sourced supplies, it became evident that it was justified to invest in and install our own heat treating process. Our expert engineer Brian Killian was responsible for the development and installation of this equipment."

He continues “The results of this move has been better than we anticipated. The finished product from our in-house facilities resulted in a much higher quality product than we were getting from our outsourced suppliers.”

The heat-treating process consists of a microwave type of heating coil that the bars and related parts are passed though via an electric slide. Immediately after passing though the heating unit the bars and related parts are cooled with a salt water solution.  This whole process takes approximately 10 seconds per bar and less for related parts that are shorter in length.

Due to the intensive heat and immediate cooling , the bars come out of the unit with a slight bow in them. This is rectified by passing them through a roller straightener which takes approximately another 3 seconds. All that remains is to have the bars zinc plated to prevent rusting, which is currently done by a company in Nevada.

Engineer Brian Killian commented "The installation of this equipment has increased the efficiency of the assembly process by 25% and the improved quality of the finished product will be measured by consumer response."

Lowell Thomas Tool, Inc. manufactures and distributes the JackClamp parallel bar clamp kit which consists of two clamps, one set of v-jaws, one set of spreader jaws and two foot attachments.
