By: I.D.E.A.S. 40203 “The effect that a single person using a good or a service has on the total perceived of that product or service for others. The more who use the product or service, the higher it’s value becomes to the group – examples would include the telephone and social networks. The larger the group of people with access to a telephone, the more valuable the phone itself is to the people who use it; and the more people who join a social network the more valuable the site is for the people who belong.” http://ideas40203.com/ I.D.E.A.S. 40203 is more than a building. It is a member-driven association whose network is dedicated to finding NEW WAYS for artists, creatives and entrepreneurs to effect positive civic and economic change in Louisville, Kentucky. So, what is the network effect of diverse group 15-20 member participants spending three separate Saturdays together (January, February and March) — learning, listening and making together? How can I.D.E.A.S. 40203’s artists use their artistic process of inquiry to drive of innovative thinking? That is what I.D.E.A.S. 40203 will be finding out in the first three months of 2014. Half of the group will be students and teachers from YouthBuild Louisville (Smoketown). The other half will be techies, entrepreneurs and business executives. Unless otherwise noted, all events will take place at I.D.E.A.S. 40203, 1217 S. 4th Street. Participant Agenda Section Descriptions & Artists Art-Pose Through our asana practice we unite mind, body and breath. Artist and certified yoga instructor, Clare Hirn, will lead participants through beginning and intermediate Hatha yoga poses as we explore moving with our breath. Art-Work The historical relationships between painting, photography, printmaking, and tapestries are some artists tools for image-identity construction. Network Effect’s participants have wide ranging identities. What will the participant group identity ultimately look like when translated into a tapestry? Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Yale graduate, Noel Anderson, will lead the participants in creating the work. He is represented by Jack Tilton Gallery NYC and is assistant professor of fine arts in the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP). Art-Hack A hacker is someone who loves to program. Hacking entails some form of excellence that explores the limits of what is possible thereby doing something exciting and meaningful. Sara Pitt is I.D.E.A.S. 40203’s current artist-in-residence. She is spending 3 months developing a computer program art piece — a virtual identity for I.D.E.A.S. 40203 that will dynamically change based on who the user is. She will share her process with the group expanding their definition what “art” can be. Art-Noise Contemporary society has constructed a wall dividing music from people.
