Follow on Google News | New Book Highlights the History of LancasterLancaster Historical Society uses vintage images to share history
In 2014 Lancaster will celebrate its 250th anniversary. This new pictorial history helps to share the unique legacy of this New Hampshire town by displaying scenes of the people and places that make the area legendary. The Lancaster Historical Society has selected images from its archives to illustrate the rich commercial, architectural and agricultural history. Though Lancaster is mostly a residential town, a few small industries are highlighted in the book such as P.J. Noyes Laboratories, the Thompson Manufacturing Company and Marshall’s Carriage Shop. The book also includes anecdotes about some notable locals, like Jared. W. Williams and Chester B. Jordan, both governors who came from Lancaster. As well as the well-known locals, Lancasterhighlights the ordinary men and women who farmed the land and took part in the industrial and cultural growth of the town. The Lancaster Historical Society states, “This book is intended to entertain and inspire a new generation of citizens with an interest in preserving the past.” Hopefully, Images of America: Lancaster will do just that by inspiring readers to learn more about Lancaster’s past and help celebrate its 250th anniversary. *All profits from the sale of the book will support the Lancaster Historical Society and the archival preservation of its archives and collections.* Available at area bookstores, independent retailers, and online retailers, or through Arcadia Publishing at (888)-313-2665 or online.
