For the man who started his working life as a trainee designer with Paragon Wallcoverings in his native Darwen 40 years ago, worked his way up to a senior level and was so well regarded that he became a member of the team that worked on the wallpaper design for Coronation Street’s Rovers Return.
“Annie Walker was the landlady in the series at the time and it was quite exciting to be part of the team that was working on the project,” recalled Mark. “We considered quite a number of designs for the pub walls before deciding on the winner which was quite traditional even back in the 70s.
“I’ve got a couple of old videos of the show should I want to re-live the experience.”
Today Mark is a director of Forrest and Jones of Broughton where he and business partner Gareth Jones have earned a reputation as innovators in the wall-coverings world.

“Gareth and I have a vast amount of experience under our belts,” added Mark who worked for various wall-coverings manufacturers as well as spending some time as a freelance designer. “We now aim to give our clients the benefit of that considerable expertise.”
And as if Coronation Street’s Annie Walker wasn’t enough, Mark, who lives in Preston, can also name-drop another well-known TV star thanks to his work.
“I was a member of the team that came up with the flock wallpaper design that was used to decorate Del Boy’s flat in Only Fools and Horses,” said Mark. “I didn’t meet David Jason who played Del Boy or any of the cast – but I just loved the series.”
Mark and Gareth are now heavily involved in a major design project for a company with sites in Manchester and Liverpool.
