The endearing and much-loved Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway will be continuing to thrill visitors to the Lake District in 2014, both with its regular narrow gauge services and a packed events programme which it is describing as ‘Locomotion’ Twelve exciting events add to the romantic experience of travelling by steam along the longest narrow gauge railway track in Cumbria, through hidden valleys and awe-inspiring landscapes on an amazing seven-mile journey. New for 2014 are Photography Days - a train enthusiast’s or amateur photographer’ These are the two stations between which Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway gives passengers a really memorable day and atmospheric journey. Ravenglass is the Lake District’s only coastal village and Dalegarth, nestles close to England’s tallest mountains near the village of Boot. Another highlight of Locomotion’s 12 is the Family Fun Weekend taking place over the May Bank Holiday weekend (May 3-5). This will be an action-packed weekend of family fun at the Railway and will also feature the locomotive Bonnie Dundee on static display. This is a great opportunity to find out all about this engine in the bronze green livery of the North British Railway and climb aboard her for pictures and family fun. She was built for the Dundee Gasworks in 1900 and has had a few rebuilds and modifications since. Another firm favourite, the lovely blue Synolda, will also be on show. For those who like to find out more about wildlife, the great outdoors and the world of nature, there are four not-to-be-missed dates in the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway’s events calendar. The first is an RSPB Activity Weekend on June 7 and 8. The RSPB will be running a number of different activities and creating self-guided nature trails and lots of arts and crafts fun at Dalegarth. The RSPB will benefit from a charitable donation from the Railway.
