National Singing Star Competition Benefits University Area CDC

PRLog - Jan. 16, 2014 - TAMPA, Fla. -  The National Singing Star Tampa Bay Competition welcomes performers of all ages to compete in the annual singing competition benefiting the University Area Community Development Corporation’s (UACDC) Community Voices Theater Program. No appointment is necessary to audition, but pre-registration is available at www.nationalsingingstar.com.

The preliminary showcase open call auditions will be held at University Mall Jan. 19 from 1 – 5 p.m. and Jan. 20 – 21 from 3 – 8 p.m. Semifinals will be Jan. 26 from 1 – 5 p.m. and Jan. 27 from 3 – 8 p.m. The final showcase will take place Feb. 2 from 1 – 5 p.m. and Feb. 3 from 3 - 8 p.m. Winners will be announced at the Awards Finale Feb. 5 at 6:30p.m.

A $500 cash prize and Singing Star Trophy will be awarded to the competition winner along with the title of Tampa Bay’s Singing Star, a television appearance, professional studio demo record and the opportunity to compete for the national title.

Admission is $10 to all showcases, which includes 10 voting tickets. Additional votes can be purchased throughout the competition showcases and profits from vote tickets go to UACDC.

“We are extremely grateful the National Singing Star chose us as their beneficiary,” said Ronnie Oliver, UACDC director of development. “Performing arts has such a positive impact in the University Area. It helps youth build communications skills and brings residents together.”

The UACDC Community Voices Theater Program is designed to promote youth leadership skills, social networks and the ability to work among peers. It is free to all youth from the 33612 and 33613 zip codes and teaches them to write their own stories in the form of a stage play during the fall, then produce and perform their play in the following spring program. Students learn creative writing, acting, directing, set design and construction, costume design, light as well as sound technologies and much more.

The University Area Community Development Corporation, Inc. (UACDC) is a 501(c)(3) public/private partnership whose mission is children and family development, crime prevention, and commerce growth.
