Growlers Pourhouse Makes Draft Magazine’s Top 100 Beer Bars – Four Years in a Row

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Jan. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- It could be the local vibe. It could be the monthly beer education sessions. It could be that Growlers Pourhouse’s beer selection regularly rotates – or that their offerings are all chosen by a Certified Cicerone. But Growlers Pourhouse has become a stand-out establishment in the craft beer community in Charlotte.

And now, for the fourth year in a row, Growlers Pourhouse has made it on Draft Magazine’s Top 100 Beer Bars.

Growlers Pourhouse has only been around four and a half years – but their concept could not have been more ripe to take off. Craft beer has seen an enormous surge in the past several years – allowing the local pub to thrive – and stand out among other bars.

The neighborhood bar may not boast the most beers on tap in Charlotte, but they have one of the most uniquely crafted lists as they rotate regularly and select all beers based on styles. Their beer menu allows customers a way to try new beers based on the types of beer they tend to enjoy. Because many of the beers are from smaller breweries, and are not well-known, knowledgeable bar tenders and servers then assist the customers in choosing the “right” style of beer from the list.

This notion of “education” has been key to the Growlers Pourhouse concept. In fact, Growlers Pourhouse holds a free Beer Education every first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm. Jeff Tonidandel – one of the owners of Growlers Pourhouse is actually a Certified Cicerone (sommelier of beer) – and he typically helps guide the discussion. Topics vary from taste testing styles, to cooking with beer, to beer pairings.

With all the intentional focus on “crafting” a unique craft beer bar, having been selected to Draft Magazine’s Top 100 Beer Bars is a great honor.

“We’re really proud of being on this highly coveted list,” Tonidandel says. “Draft Magazine is one of the beer industry’s primary voices – they’re respected because they know their stuff. To be on this list four years in a row is a huge privilege.”

Tonidandel has visited a number of the Draft Magazine Top 100 Beer Bars, and he says he gets inspiration from each one he visits.  He finds new ways to continually keep Growlers Pourhouse on the top trends in the craft beer world – including adding craft beer cocktails, swapping out some menu items, and continually changing out beer to offer seasonal and innovative offerings.
