The KMS Wristband is based on GSM cellular telephone and assisted GPS technologies miniaturized into a simple, comfortable wristband. The device enables the wearer to quickly connect with one of a number of predefined contacts with a simple one click button on the device. The simple design has no LCD screens, and needs no internet access. Once a call has been initiated, only the caring call recipient can terminate the call, insuring at all times that contact is maintained with the wearer until the current event that triggered the call is resolved. In addition, carers can use a web app or smartphone app to locate the location of the wearer using the built-in GPS technology. Carers can pre-program specific routes to be traveled by the wearer, or define Geo-fence areas through which they do not wish the wearer to travel. If the KMS Wristband wearer strays from the pre-defined routes or enters a Geo-fenced area then the carer is notified either by text or email.

Chris Etchells co-founder and director of KMS Solutions Limited has worked with vulnerable adults for many years: “Many of these people cannot use traditional mobile phones, but they desire the comfort of being to be connected to loved ones or concerned parties like the rest of us. Other companies have developed phones aimed at the aging population but they all have similar features, and require an ability to physically answer the device. KMS Wristband solves these issues. In the US alone a staggering 800,000 children are reported missing each year, and we believe that our unique wristband could play a key role in addressing this issue.”
The wristband’s development has utilized the design miniaturization capabilities on the UK’s University of Manchester, shrinking GSM and GPS technology to the size of a calculator watch. The discreet KMS Wristband not only allows effective communication but also acts as a tracking device, helping to ensure children’s and adult’s safety and enabling both vulnerable persons and their carers to feel secure.
KMS Solutions recently launched the prototype of this pioneering wearable safety device at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Production quantities will be available later this year. More details at www.kmswristband.com
