By: JM Family Enterprises The annual ranking is one of the most credible workplace satisfaction studies in the nation because of the emphasis placed on the employee experience. Two-thirds of a company’s score is determined by an anonymous survey and the remainder is based on a thorough evaluation by the Great Place to Work® Institute, a global human resources consulting, research and training firm specializing in organizational trust. “The culture created by our late founder Jim Moran and the dedication of our 3,800 associates sets us apart as an employer of choice,” said Colin Brown, president and CEO, JM Family. “Our success is driven by the people who work here, and this achievement represents the passion and dedication that they bring to JM Family every day. They truly are our greatest asset and competitive advantage.” JM Family has been on the list every year since first applying in 1999. The privately held company is often recognized for its associate-focused culture, which includes nine onsite Health & Wellness Centers for associates and their families, exceptional healthcare benefits, profit sharing and 401(k) retirement plans, programs promoting work/life balance, and opportunities to give back to the communities where the company has major business operations. (http://www.jmfamily.com/ About Great Place to Work Great Place to Work® is a global consulting and management training (http://www.greatplacetowork.com/ Methodology To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America; 257 firms participated in this year's survey. More than 252,000 employees at those companies were surveyed by the institute, a global research and consulting firm operating in 45 countries around the world. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third is based on responses to the institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, methods of internal communication, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts. After evaluations are completed, if news about a company comes to light that may significantly damage employees' faith in management, we may exclude it from the list. Any company that is at least five years old and has more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible. The deadline for applying for next year's list is June 30, 2014.
