Achieve greater career heights with WOU’s qualifications

GEORGETOWN, Malaysia - Jan. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Driven by a passion to achieve greater heights in her career, Afiqah Liyana Mohmad Nordin has chosen Wawasan Open University (WOU) to pursue her higher studies while working.

Afiqah, a bank clerk at AmBank, Kuala Lumpur, is pursuing her Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Banking and Finance (BBBF), a programme that fits into her professional needs.

“The BBBF programme delivers self-development skills and knowledge.  All the modules are relevant to real-life working situations and I can apply my knowledge to my work as I learn,” she said.

Afiqah, 25, is determined to improve herself.  For her, this WOU’s degree would be an investment for a brighter future. “Today’s job market is very competitive and I’m afraid I will be left behind without a recognised degree,” she added.

WOU provides more than 40 industry-relevant programmes that can put working professionals in control of their careers.  They can pursue their choice of programmes and upgrade their professional knowledge and skills without leaving their jobs. To date, there are more than 13,000 working professionals who have experienced WOU’s unique Online Distance Learning (ODL) system.

“It’s flexible, affordable and accessible which suit working professionals’ lifestyle.   I can study anytime, anywhere, either at home, office, or while I’m travelling,” said Afiqah who enrolled through Kuala Lumpur Regional Centre.

Carolyn Chew, 32, an editorial artist from Penang, is grateful with the opportunity provided by WOU. “In graphic design, the scope is very small and limited,” she said.

“Even though my background is in graphic design, I feel that you need management and marketing knowledge no matter what line of work you are in.  You need to market your ideas to others, and with this degree, at least it can empower me to go into the business field in the future,” she added.

“What I learnt I wouldn’t say it directly influences my job, but indirectly it helps me communicate and perform my job better,” said Carolyn who received her scroll in Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Sales and Marketing at the recent convocation ceremony.

“With my degree from WOU, I can work in any agency or company without any restrictions. I feel it’s like a stepping stone to reach wider and bigger career options,” she continued.

Enrol today at WOU for the ODL January 2014 intake.  Working professionals can apply through Regular Entry or via WOU’s unique Open Entry Admission system that takes your work experience into consideration.  You need to be at least 21 years old with a minimum PMR/SPM/MCE/UEC/Diploma or equivalent qualifications.

WOU is also offering On Campus Learning (OCL) full-time studies at its main campus in Penang for school leavers and Diploma holders.  Enrolment for February 2014 intake is now ongoing.  Enrol now for the full-time business degree programmes – Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting and Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Management.
