(West Palm Beach, FL – January 14, 2014) 2014 is starting off with a “bang” for world renowned dance photographer and cultural raconteur Steven Caras – or maybe that should be “Bang Bang Bang Bang” representing four major highlights in his celebrated career.

* NYC Premiere of Emmy-Winning Documentary 'Steven Caras: See Them Dance'- January 19 & 21
Due to numerous successful nationwide airings, the country's largest PBS station, WNET/13 in New York will air the Emmy™ winning film Steven Caras: See Them Dance on Sunday, January 19 at 1:30 p.m. and two days later at 4 a.m.

Directed by three-time Emmy winner Deborah Novak and set at New York City Ballet during its golden years, the film charts the bumpy life story of Caras, who overcame bullying from his peers and animosity from his own father, to become NYCB’s youngest male dancer.  During his 14 years with the company, the legendary choreographer George Balanchine* took note of his protégé’s additional talent as a photographer and encouraged him to take this added gift very seriously.  The film blends Caras' intimate narrative with his stunning photographs of many of ballet's most distinguished icons, including Balanchine, Jerome Robbins, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Suzanne Farrell, Rudolf Nureyev and Natalia Makarova among countless others.

* Broadway Legend Chita Rivera to Present the 'Heart & Soul' Award to Caras at The Breakers - January 29
Describing it as “a most wonderful honor,” Caras will receive the Career Transition for Dancers "Heart & Soul" award at their fifth annual Palm Beach gala, where nine-time Tony Award nominee and two-time winner Chita Rivera will serve as host and master of ceremonies.

"Steven Caras’ accomplishments in the arts are extraordinary, ongoing, and continue to astound us,” says Anka Palitz, Career Transition for Dancers Vice President and founding board member  "He is an inspiration to all dancers who must face the inevitable 'post dancing' reality. So on this occasion, we not only honor Steve for all he's done, but as the motivating example he continues to be for all of us." Ms. Palitz is serving as co-chair of the gala along with Vicki Kellogg and George Palladino.

* Repeat Airings of Documentary on WXEL-TV - February 8 & 11
After already hosting two successful pledge-related telecasts of Steven Caras: See Them Dance, WXEL-TV will broadcast two more prime time airings on Saturday, February 8, at 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 11, at noon.

Entertainer Michael Feinstein praised the documentary as “an extraordinary piece of film making that stands as a testament to a phenomenal artist. It is a brilliant and gripping experience watching his art take shape; journeying both as a dancer and a man." Tony Award winner Patti LuPone said, "Steven Caras is a supreme photographer in the ballet world--passionately underscored in this wonderful film." While the legendary Mikhail Baryshnikov declared, "Steven Caras, having danced himself, has an intuitive feel for dancers and the way they move.  "This understanding is evident in his photography… he captures the outer workings of the body while revealing glimpses of the dancer's inner life."

* 12-Page Photo Spread in January 'Power' Issue of Palm Beach Illustrated
Under  the able direction of Editor in Chief Daphne Nikolopoulos, the January 2014 “Power” issue of Palm Beach Illustrated devotes 12 pages to photographs by Steven Caras, which the magazine describes as "moments in dance as seen through a master's lens."

"Steve  Caras is a phenomenal talent,” says Nikolopoulos. “His images capture the grace of dance and the very essence of the body in motion. As an editor, I have collaborated with him on many levels and have always considered it a privilege.”
