Free Jazz Concert at the Randall Library Features the Jazz Duo of Hudson Piano Teacher Ed Mascari

One hour jazz concert combines the talents of two well-known local music teachers and Hudson residents, pianist Ed Mascari and saxophonist/flutist Rebecca Wellons in a program featuring upbeat arrangements of familiar standards and jazz tunes.

STOW, Mass. - Jan. 15, 2014 - PRLog -- Stow, MA – The Ed Mascari Jazz Duo Featuring Rebecca Wellons (Ed Mascari-piano; Rebecca Wellons-saxophone & flute) will give a free jazz concert on Tuesday evening, January 21st at the Randall Public Library, 19 Crescent St. Stow, MA 01775 at 7:00 PM.

Ed Mascari and Rebecca Wellons are both neighbors who discovered their musical compatibility this past summer. Their repertoire includes pieces such as Autumn Leaves, Over the Rainbow, Alice in Wonderland, Song for My Father, Have You Met Miss Jones and Take Five. Ed Mascari – piano has maintained a professional performing career for more than four decades. In his early career, he worked as a jazz organist leading his own quartet playing concerts at many New England Colleges. Later he played electric piano and synthesizer in “Top 40” bands and then performed as a solo pianist at such venues as the Sheraton Boston Hotel and for 14 years at the Radisson Milford Hotel. Since 1981, Ed has been the organist/pianist/choir director at the Hartford Street Presbyterian Church in Natick. Ed’s many classical compositions have been performed in the USA and in Europe and are published by Keiser Music with recordings on Parma Records. He is a graduate of Holy Cross College and holds two Master of Music degrees from New England Conservatory.

Rebecca Wellons-alto & soprano saxophones and flute
has performed with the Chagall Performing Arts Collaborative, the CPAC Saxophone Quartet, The Boston Percussion Group, and has been featured as a soloist with the Bridgewater State University Wind Ensemble. She has also participated in numerous premieres of music for saxophone including works by Aaron Jay Myers, Claudio Gabriele, and Robert Lemay. Rebecca can be heard on Cauchemar Records.

As an educator, Rebecca directs the jazz and concert bands and also teaches general music at Wayland Middle School. In the past, she has taught saxophone and music history at Bridgewater State University, directed public school bands and music for grades 3 – 12, and maintained a successful private teaching studio. Rebecca earned degrees from Indiana University (BME) and The Boston Conservatory (MMEd and MM).  Her teachers have included Kenneth Radnofsky, Otis Murphy, and Eugene Rousseau.
