DATE:
         Sunday, January 19, 2014

TIME:          3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

WHERE:       Willingboro Senior Center, 429 JFK Way, Willingboro, N.J.

WHAT:          Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, Theta Pi Omega Chapter, will pay tribute to military personnel and their families, provide information regarding available economic opportunities; and reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as part of the sorority’s Sunday Supper initiative.

For the second consecutive year, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® will partner with the Corporation for National & Community Service to execute their 2014 MLK Jr. Day of Service. As part of this initiative, local chapters will host Sunday Supper. Modeled after the suppers hosted by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the Civil Rights Movement, the suppers will engage attendees in meaningful discussions about issues plaguing local communities.

The members of Theta Pi Omega Chapter will feed active military service men and women, veterans and their families, and recognize them for their service during the upcoming Sunday Supper. The program will also include an array of speakers who will discuss economic opportunities and a video on the life of Dr. King.

“The advances made in the field of civil rights have been made on the shoulders of the courageous men and women who have served, and are serving, our country,” said Melanie L. Burney, President of Theta Pi Omega Chapter. “It is only fitting that we express our gratitude for their sacrifices on this day of service.”
