“Chaves and Silvia began dancing together in 2004 before turning pro in June 2010 and we’re thrilled to offer their expertise and talent to Chicago dance lovers,” said Gracell Lim, artistic choreographer and director at Terpsichore, the event sponsor.
Winning the Bachatastars and Bachataopen in 2011 places Chaves and Sylvia among the world’s best and most respected dancers of Bachata, a sensuous dance style that originated in the Dominican Republic. Dance moves, or step variety, during performance depends on the music, ambiance of the room, and personal interpretation and the moves typically incorporate a side-to-side motion.
Chaves made a brief visit last year to Chicago and was very attracted to the lifestyle and people here. He began planning a return trip with his love and dance partner, Silvia, and a brief opening in the couple’s busy schedule allowed them to visit Chicago this month.
All workshops contain different, intriguing and challenging material to improve dance skill. The workshops are designed to give dancers the ability to completely and confidently learn and execute this very impressive style of Bachata. Complete body control, leads, following, and more. No two workshops will be the same and each will be challenging and most of all, fun.
The charismatic couple will offer beginner, intermediate and advance level classes and participants can choose one or all options. Group classes accommodate between 80-100 dancers cost $30 per person. No partner necessary. Those seeking private lessons may arrange those classes for $150 per hour for single person or a couple with both Chaves and Silvia, or $100 per hour for single person or a couple with one or the other dance star. February 1st join a choreography workshop for $75 per person. Individual workshops are also available from $35 each. Savings are available for those reserving before January 20th.
