In this new pictorial history, all parts of Clinton County are featured in order to correctly educate residents and visitors alike on the history of the county situated south of Montreal and north of the Adirondacks. The majority of images have been culled from the collection of the Clinton County Historian’s Office, with additional contributions by various local historians and historical associations. The images and postcards throughout the book feature both the rare, less-known history of the area and the iconic images of the region, such as that of Santa Claus astride an airplane. By providing readers an opportunity to view the postcards and photographs of days gone by the book hopes to preserve the history of the area and illuminate its modern identity. Author Anastasia Pratt states, “I hope this book will remind people that their stories and images of the past are important, that they were worth saving.” Highlights of Clinton County include: •The history of the military presence in the region shown through postcards, from the original barracks to the final years of the Plattsburgh Air Force Base. •Images showing the local mining industry. •Local stories and photographs of residents who worked in and around Plattsburgh throughout its history. •Anecdotes about life in the rural county and the importance of agriculture to the region.
