Jan. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Six distinguished technologists from the academia in Hong Kong have been newly elevated to the grade of Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) with effect from 1 January 2014.

They are Professor Kevin Chen Jing, Professor Howard Luong and Professor Philip Mok of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; Professor Kwok Yu-kwong and Professor Ed Wu of The University of Hong Kong; and Professor Sam Kwong of City University of Hong Kong.

The list of the newly-elevated Fellows from different parts of the world was reviewed and selected by the 2013 IEEE Fellow Committee at its annual meeting held in Hong Kong in October 2013, under the Chairmanship of Dr Cheung Nim-kwan, who is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute. This was the first time that the annual Fellow Committee meeting was held in Asia.

In extending his congratulations to the six new IEEE Fellows from Hong Kong, Dr Cheung said, “With their extraordinary accomplishments in their respective technological fields, these six outstanding IEEE members from Hong Kong truly deserve this prestigious grade elevation.”

The IEEE Fellow Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the IEEE Board of Directors for nominees to be elevated to the grade of Fellow.

The IEEE Grade of Fellow is conferred by the IEEE Board of Directors upon a person with an outstanding record of accomplishments in the fields of engineering and technology. The total number selected in any one year cannot exceed one-tenth of one percent of the total voting membership. IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership and is recognized by the technical community as a prestigious honour and an important career achievement. Close to 300 individuals in the world were elevated to IEEE Fellow for 2014.
