COVINGTON, Ga. - Jan. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- The Center for Community Preservation and Planning, Newton County Visitors Bureau and Newton County Chamber of Commerce are collaborating to bring the residents, students and businesses of Newton County a one-day entrepreneurship hackathon called Upload Newton. If you are a small business in need of a website, or interested in marketing your web development skills, Upload Newton challenges you to Code Local.

"It is exciting to see how the educational and business communities are coming together to make this first event a success," stated Hunter Hall, President of the Newton County Chamber of Commerce. "We anticipate that the synergy created by the Upload Newton hackathon will be a catalyst for even more unique, collaborative programs that benefit the community and local economy."

This hackathon challenges local developers to show what they can accomplish in one day. Upload Newton is actively seeking local businesses in need of websites, logos, smartphone apps, and other digital collateral to be challenge Hosts. Upload Newton will work with these Hosts to define their exact needs and prepare a specific challenge. On Saturday, February 1st, Upload Newton Challengers will select a challenge, and compete to create the best product in one day for a jury of local business owners.

If you need a website or digital collateral, and want to meet Newton County’s local talent, consider hosting a challenge and matching yourself with the local web development community.

If you can build a website, design a logo, or put together a smartphone app, this is your chance to connect with potential clients and turn your craft into contract work or launch your career.

The entire Newton County community is welcome to participate.

Sponsors are also needed to donate food items for the Challengers or prizes for the winners during the evening awards ceremony. Challengers, Hosts and Sponsors are greatly appreciated and will make Upload Newton’s hackathon a success.

“Newton County has so many fantastic small businesses, and we’ve seen a lot of success these past few years encouraging people to shop local and buy local. Upload Newton is next level, connecting our retail and commercial entrepreneurs with our own homegrown digital talent,” remarks Kay Lee, Director of the Center for Community Preservation and Planning. “Newton County is ready to shop local, buy local, and code local.”
