KYIV, Ukraine - Jan. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- On January, 13 the archbishop of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church Sviatoslav Shevchuk has received a letter, in which Ukrainian Ministry of Culture claims that the religious organisations may be deprived of a legal status as a result of their activity related to EuroMaidan. According to his words, the reason mentioned in the letter is the fact that a part of priesthood is engaging in political protests. The archbishop emphazised that the church has always been the heart of a nation, supporting the rule of law. '' We supposed that the persecutions of the church were already in the past. This appears to be the first time since the indepence of Ukraine when the question of the cancellation of Ukraninan Greek-Catholic Church has been considered''. The archbishop mentions that the church has to point out impartial laws and participate in the social proccesses. "The church is not engaged in the political life of the state, though it is an unalienable part of the civil society". He asserts that praying for peace among those who express their desire to live in a state where democracy reigns peacefully is considered to be an approriate venue for devotion. The document confirms the incongruity of this system of government and proves the relevance of adopting drastic measures against those with oposing view of the power structure.
