Chicago Divorce Lawyer Jeffery Leving Discusses Legalizing Medical Marijuana For NFL Players

CHICAGO - Jan. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- January 10, 2013, Chicago, Illinois --  Leading Chicago family law attorney Jeffery Leving (http://dadsrights.com) (http://dadsrights.com/) will join Mike North this Sunday, January 12^th at 8:30 AM CST on Fox Sports Radio –XM 247 (NATIONAL) to discuss the potential implications of legalizing medical marijuana for NFL players.  As of January 1, Colorado residents can now legally purchase and use pot.  However, the NFL’s collective bargaining agreement prohibits cannabis use – even for those players based in Colorado.  Currently, any player who tests positive for marijuana could be suspended. Whether an exception will be made for players who use medical marijuana is unknown.

In a statement earlier this week to ESPN.com, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell left open the possibility that medical marijuana may be allowed, explaining "I don't know what's going to develop  … to help either deal with pain or help deal with injuries, but we will continue to support the evolution of medicine.”

Leving, who has represented numerous professional athletes, adds “We must balance the benefits of medical marijuana with the potential for substance abuse.  As medical marijuana gains greater widespread acceptance, now is the time to consider whether its use should be allowed by the NFL to help ease the substantial pain players endure and assist in the healing process.”

Medical marijuana is now legal in 20 states.
