WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Jan. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- As the City of Walnut Creek is preparing for a year-long Celebration of the Century:  100 Year of Walut Creek, Kisco Senior Living is kicking off the 100th Anniversary celebrations with an event open to the public at Byron Park on Saturday, January 18th, 2014. The senior community will honor and explore the city’s colorful history and dress over the last 100 years, as well as celebrate the present and look to the future with Mayor pro tem Kristina Lawson.

Join Byron Park residents and associates for refreshments and a chance to learn everything there is to know about Walnut Creek.  Commencing at 1:30 p.m., there will be a book signing by Catherine Accardi, noted author and historian, and past newsletter editor of the Walnut Creek Historical Society.  Catherine will share insights from her book “Images of America-Walnut Creek” starting at 2:30 p.m., based on two decades of research on the rich heritage and history of Walnut Creek.   Filled with information and fascination over the 100 years since the city was incorporated in 1914, she will present over 100 historic, vintage images and their stories.

You won’t want to miss displays of clothing from the last 100 years by Sheila Rogstad, also an historian from the Walnut Creek Historical Society.  Even though we’ve all seen movies with dress from the last century, how exciting it will be to see so many styles and history all in one place!

We are proud to welcome Mayor pro tem Kristina Lawson who will speak about the current state of affairs of the city along with setting the tone for the next 100 years.  She is sure to help solidify our community’s civic pride that was established back when the downtown was simply known as “The Corners”!

This event will be a celebration for all people who live, work and play in Walnut Creek, or simply want to learn more about the city.  For more information about the City of Walnut Creek’s community funded and led year-long celebration, partnership opportunities and programs, visit www.walnutcreek100.com.
