Warm forging is typically used to produce components comprised of steel alloys that would be harder to perform with cold forging. It is also used for making components that will be close to the final net result when finished. The process first requires for the workpiece to be heated above the hardening temperature and under the point of temperature at which scales start to form. The parts are then exposed to intensive cooling, and due to the alternating exposure of the parts to heat and cool temperatures, the parts are subject to high thermal fatigue.
