Lori Frascati, Director of Client Relations at Davidson & Garrard, and one of the organizers of the event, noted, “Campus Kitchen at Washington and Lee’s Backpack Program started in 2009 as a partnership between Campus Kitchen and Natural Bridge Elementary School, and has expanded to cover all seven elementary schools in the Rockbridge area. This vital program delivers backpacks filled with non-perishable food to the schools and targets children who are eligible for free or reduced lunches.” Jenny Davidson, another event organizer and Co-Curricular Service Coordinator at W&L, remarked, “Children are guaranteed lunch Monday through Friday and now by sending food home with them in backpacks on Friday night, CKWL ensures they have food over the weekend. The program provides snacks for over 600 local pre-school and elementary school students who deal with hunger on a regular basis. Please join us in tackling childhood hunger by participating in the 2nd Annual Souper Bowl.” W& Students, who receive the backpacks, as a percentage of the student body, range from 21.6% at Harrington Waddell Elementary to 71.13 % at FW Kling. The average of all elementary schools in the program is 49%. The event raised thousands of dollars for the program last year, an essential part of tackling childhood hunger locally. This year we have more participating restaurants, more entertainment and expanded seating. This year’s event promised to be an event not to miss! ### If you’d like more information about this topic, or would like to volunteer at the event please call Lori Frascati at 540-464-9100 or e-mail Lori at lfrascati@dg- End
