Dubai Smart Government’s Advisory Board conducts first meeting

Session discussed Executive Board Resolution No. (44) of 2013 about formation of Advisory Board of DSG and its jurisdictions

 
PRLog - Jan. 8, 2014 - [UAE, January 8, 2014] - The Advisory Board of the Dubai Smart Government (DSG) initiative recently held its first meeting at the Ruler’s Court of Dubai, headed by Director General H.E. Ahmed Bin Humaidan, in the presence of board members including Colonel Yusuf Hamad Al Shaibani from the State Security Department in Dubai; Abdullah Al Madani from the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA); Juma Al Ghaith from Dubai Customs; Mohammad Shael from the Department of Economic Development; Mohammed Al Zafin from the Dubai Municipality; Mubaraka Mubarak from the Dubai Health Authority; Moza Al Akraf from the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority; Wissam Al Abbas Lootah from DSG; and Sumaia Bin Hammad, Board Reporter and Director of Communication and Business Development, DSG.

The session discussed Executive Board Resolution No. (44) of 2013 about the formation of the Advisory Board of DSG and its jurisdictions. Members further underlined the board’s strategic priorities and work methodologies for the upcoming phase aimed at promoting the welfare of customers - including nationals, visitors, residents and businessmen. They also proposed to provide innovative e-Service solutions by leveraging state-of-the-art technologies to meet their aspirations, regardless of the government department offering the service.

Board members emphasized on the need to promote innovation and compliance according to best international practices, in addition to raising the level of cooperation amongst government agencies. They also insisted in unifying  efforts to make the best use of the infrastructure and mutual services offered by DSG that are adopted by government departments to achieve higher levels of efficiency and effectiveness in Dubai’s transformation to a Smart Government.

H.E. Ahmed Bin Humaidan, Head of the Board and Director General of Dubai Smart Government, said: “The Resolution issued by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, to form the Advisory Board of DSG manifests his unparalleled support for innovation and development in the emirate to achieve higher levels of leadership and customer satisfaction, both locally and internationally. Establishing the Board emphasizes the need for cooperation and teamwork among government entities to offer integrated smart services to ultimately raise the bar for Dubai to be one of the highly competitive cities. Under the set resolution, the Board, in cooperation with other government departments, will lay down practical steps for the upcoming phase aimed at contributing to Dubai’s transformation into a smart city.”

“Dubai’s government departments are sparing no efforts to contribute to the transformation by offering a variety of smartphone applications with the aim to achieve their mission within the time frame of two years. The Board will play an effective role in uniting efforts and making the best of government competencies by exchanging knowledge and expertise to achieve integrated smart transformation in the shortest time possible,” concluded Bin Humaidan.

Established under Resolution No. (44) of 2013, the Advisory Board of DSG will be studying and endorsing the general strategic plan prepared by the department to shift all government bodies to Smart Government framework, submitting its recommendations to the Executive Board for approval. It will also be analyzing the strategic plans, initiatives and major projects included in the annual budget provided by government agencies and related to information technology and the shift to Smart Government. Additionally, it will be submitting appropriate recommendations in this regard to the concerned authorities for approval.

The Board will also conduct a periodic review of the strategic plans of the government agencies relating to information technology and the move to a Smart Government. In addition, it will also conduct an occasional assessment of results and achievements made through the initiatives and projects in place in this regard. While doing so, it will take necessary measures to ensure the government agencies’ commitment to implementing these procedures. Finally, the Board will prepare periodic reports on the level of transformation to a Smart Government achieved by government agencies in coordination with the department and present these reports to the Executive Council.
