When Solomon assumed the role of King, the Lord asked him what he wanted.  Solomon replied, “Give me now wisdom and knowledge.”  With that answer, the Lord not only granted his request, but added to him riches, wealth and honor beyond any other King, past, present or future.

Solomon understood something that most people do not.  He learned at an early age, through his father, David, that wealth, riches and honor were simply the bi-products of wisdom and knowledge. (Proverbs 4:1-9)

A Jewish friend of Craig Hill explained it this way.  “You Christians tend to live out of the back of the Bible while we Jews tend to live out of the front of the Bible.  Unfortunately for Christians, most of the financial principles are in the front of the book.”

He continued, “It seems to me that most Christians have the idea that they can violate the basic financial principles of the Old Testament since they were introduced while man was under the law.  And now that they are living by the grace of God, through Jesus Christ, they feel no need to abide by those principles.”

Combine that with the misinterpretations of Matthew 6:25-33 and you have the makings for financial failure.  In those scriptures, Jesus is not advising us to be “careless” but to put the cares of life in perspective.  His words actually reinforce Solomon’s position.  In seeking the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, you will find wisdom, knowledge and understanding.  And with those, you need not worry, because all these things will be added unto you.

About the Author

Having a specific interest in ministering to marriages and families, Craig Hill pursued an internship and later a volunteer staff position at the New Life Counseling Center in Denver.
