SALT LAKE CITY - Jan. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- Alexandria Library Automation Software (Alexandria) conducted an interview with librarian Gloria White (White) at Montevideo Middle School Library of Rockingham County Public Schools in November of 2013.  The discussion of Alexandria’s functionality at the library and the features that are found most beneficial led to learning about the thriving community within Montevideo Middle School Library.

Montevideo Middle School Library has been using Alexandria since 2006. The Alexandria Widget is found prominently on the school’s library website, effectively leading students to the Researcher feature of Alexandria.  Once in Researcher, White has set up many personalized icons for students to access the most used tools when searching the library. Some of these icons include NoveList, MackinVIA, and ‘Most Popular’ selections. White mentioned that other librarians in the district really like what she has set up and are customizing the Researcher for their respective schools.

The teachers at Montevideo Middle School are very supportive of reading and have created book talks, reading circles, and discussion groups for books the students are currently reading.  White believes that this open discussion forum has encouraged the students to enjoy and comprehend what they’re reading, becoming more likely to share and suggest books to fellow students. This love and respect for reading makes the Montevideo Middle School Library bustle with students finding reference materials, as well as the next book that they’re interested in reading just for fun!

Another one of White’s favorite features within Alexandria is NoveList, as it gives students information on all the books in a series that they’re reading in chronological order. Since many of her students like to follow series of books, she finds NoveList to be a very helpful application. It indicates to Mrs. White what selections of books may be beneficial to purchase for the library as well. White says, “Many libraries find the Alexandria ‘hold’ function to be incredibly helpful. This allows the students to manage their own holds, as there are many favorites that seem to be in constant circulation.”

White has an excellent team to support her efforts in bringing new resources to the library at Montevideo Middle School. With powerful tools offered by Alexandria, support from fellow educators, and the curiosity of the students, White is fully outfitted to continue to bring the magic of reading to her students.

Alexandria is used in thousands of libraries worldwide since 1987, from single libraries to school districts of over 350. They have built a happy, strong, and loyal customer base through listening, understanding, and adding functionality to fit their needs. They offer live technical support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year for product users.
