ATLANTA - Jan. 7, 2014 - PRLog -- As another unfortunate consequence of the housing market crash of 2008, the once deep pool of trade professionals has shrunk considerably. Having fled to other lines of work in recent years, this sharp decline in the number of plumbers, electricians, brick masons, carpenters, roofers and general laborers has led to increased costs across the board as the residential construction industry endeavors to bounce back. Acadia Homes & Neighborhoods – an award-winning new home builder that is committed to being “A New Builder For A New Time” – is rapidly building a solid reputation in Atlanta for its signature blend of quality construction, thoughtfully-designed floorplans, distinctive communities, and wide range of offerings at affordable prices. In order to continue to do so, it became clear that the development of a strong purchasing department was essential to support the company’s future growth. To that end, company co-founder and CFO Thomas Olson recently brought on Will Mongesku as Acadia Homes & Neighborhoods’ new Director of Purchasing.

“We’re excited to add Will and his understanding of purchasing and estimating to the Acadia team,” said Olson. “In the short time he has been here, he has already proven an excellent fit for our corporate culture, and will no doubt have a hand in further shaping that culture in the years to come as we continue to grow as a company. We pride ourselves on having a great synergy internally at Acadia, and the addition of Will can help us extend that same synergy to our trade partners. I am confident that Will and his Purchasing team members will not only help strengthen our trade relationships and control our costs, but will ultimately improve our expenditures and make us more efficient as a company.”

Mongesku brings a wealth of experience in the homebuilding industry to the Acadia team. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University, he began his career as a Project Engineering Manager with Jordan Engineering Group in Phoenix, Arizona where he was responsible for the structural design and value engineering of single- and multi-family residential homes. His path eventually led him to Atlanta where he joined Ashton Woods Homes as Corporate Structural Engineer and Purchasing Agent for their Atlanta Division. When he learned of the quest for a Director of Purchasing at Acadia Homes & Neighborhoods, he saw it as a terrific opportunity to make the leap into a department and company he admired.

“I really believed in what Acadia had set out to do in the Atlanta market and wanted to be a part of it,” recalled Mongesku. “Rather than raise prices, Acadia sought to add a dedicated department to control purchasing and creatively cut costs along the way. My background in engineering means that I can analyze all of the aspects of building a home, examine the costs associated with each element, and find opportunities to cut costs wisely and effectively. We can do this a number of ways – through scheduling of materials, cutting waste, implementing powerful purchasing software, looking closely at how a trade does his/her work, and building stronger relationships with our trade professionals and vendors.”

Mongesku was drawn to Acadia for its leadership team, which he viewed as energetic, intelligent and driven. While the economic downturn had thrown most people in the homebuilding industry for a loop, he admired the fact that the Acadia team chose to learn from it in order to develop methods and visions that are wholly unique. He was particularly buoyed by the fact that they encourage innovation from their team members, which is what Mongesku has applied in building his Purchasing team and departmental approach.

Mongesku lives in Woodstock with his wife, Sherry and their two children – Audrey and Luke. When not hard at work in Acadia’s Purchasing Department, he enjoys coaching his son’s soccer team and attending his daughter’s Science Olympiad events.
