DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Jan. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center gynecologist Julie Schneider, MD, is one of the first physicians in the United States to earn board certification in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS) by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).

The subspecialty of FPMRS, or more commonly referred to as Urogynecology, obtained approval for board certification by the American Board of Medical Specialties in 2012. This is the first year board certificates were awarded.

In the spring of 2011, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) officially recognized the specialty of FPMRS.  In doing so, the ABMS acknowledged that care for women with complex pelvic floor disorders, such as urinary and fecal incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, required subspecialty training and certification beyond that of a general obstetrician/gynecologist or urologist.

In her practice, Dr. Schneider had specialized in urogynecology, treating more than general gynecology issues. She has helped countless patients struggling with urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, pelvic prolapse, pelvic floor reconstruction, pelvic floor rehabilitation, and vaginoplasty/labioplasty.

"My passion is to improve the quality of life for every woman through compassion, caring and state of the art health care,” said Dr. Schneider. “My greatest professional trophy came from a patient: a simple blue ribbon she won for ballroom dancing. By correcting her urinary incontinence problem, she had the courage to dance, and I was the recipient of her award."

In addition to her new FPMRS accreditation, Dr. Schneider is also board-certified in gynecology by the ABOG. She earned her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Ill. Dr. Schneider completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin, where she was Chief Resident.

Dr. Schneider is a member of several professional organizations, such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the Volusia County Medical Society, the American Medical Association and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology.

She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, as well as the Medical Executive Committee and the Operating Room Steering Committee.
