By: Uc Irvine Extension “At this free annual webinar series, attendants are provided with very useful tools on how to understand the attributes of gifted learners,” said Angela Jeantet, director of UC Irvine Extension’s Education Programs Department. “There tends to be different emotional characteristics tied to the gifted. Educators who stay informed of the latest teaching techniques and strategies for success will be more equipped to meet the needs all of learners regardless of level.” The free webinar series has been developed for teachers, administrators and parents of the gifted. Led by several leading GATE educators and professionals, feature presentations will include: The Gamification of Education – (Thursday, Feb 6 from 4-5 p.m. PST) - This webinar will harness the principles of games design and examine the technology tools that will help create motivating and engaging learning experiences. The New 3 R’s for GATE: Augmented Reality, QR Codes, Virtual Reality – (Thursday, Feb. 13 from 4-5 p.m. PST) - This session will explore an exciting new educational tool. With a cell phone or tablet, augmented reality adds a new layer onto what students normally see. Discourse and Collaboration: Social and Emotional Needs of the Gifted Child: What Parents Want to Know – (Thursday, Feb. 27 from 4-5 p.m. PST) -This webinar will cover the characteristics, misunderstandings, goals and objectives for supporting the development of gifted children. The session will provide answers on how their gifted personality traits affect the social, emotional and educational areas of their lives. To receive one quarter unit of credit from UC Irvine Extension, participants must attend all four live webinars (a total of four hours). A three-page reflection paper written by the participant is required to receive credit. This reflection must summarize what was learned from each webinar and how they will apply such material to their teaching methods. Participants must also submit a one or two page lesson plan that highlights strategies from a single webinar. This must be submitted before March 27, 2014.
