By: EnviroFry The Centers for Disease Control project that at least 150,000 valley fever infections go undiagnosed and untreated annually because valley fever is difficult to detect and the ignorance of the mold disease by victims and their physicians. The fever often causes mild to severe flu-like symptoms, and in about half the infections, the fungus — named Coccidioides — results in no symptoms. But it is common that valley fever can cause permanent medical problems and disabilities, as well as death if the infection spreads from the lungs to the brain, bones, skin, and eyes. Hundreds of residents and snowbirds have already been killed and thousands permanently- “Residents and snowbird visitors in the desert areas of Arizona, California, and Las Vegas should have their homes, snowbird hotel rooms or apartments, workplaces, and recreational vehicles and automobiles mold inspected and tested to determine the possible elevated presence of not only valley fever spores, but also toxic mold spores and growth from dangerous indoor molds such as Stachybotrys, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Cladosporium, and Chaetomium, in indoor air and inside swamp coolers, air conditioning equipment, and heating/cooling ducts.
