The Bridge: Founded in 2008, The Bridge is a non-profit organization that provides food, temporary housing and clothing for its guests, as well as transitional services for long-term recovery, which is the shelter’s primary focus. When designing The Bridge, the Mayor’s Task Force wanted to ensure that homeless individuals who were “shelter resistant” because of their pet(s) could be welcomed into an environment that addressed all of their needs. Consequently, a six-unit kennel was added to the architectural plans. Since the kennel’s opening, it is rarely empty, and it receives frequent support from volunteers and in-kind support from City of Dallas Animal Services (http://dallasanimalservices.org/).
