The projects builder, Scott Asher, was introduced, and Ed Urbanek, the projects designer, spoke about how the project ties in to the architectural history of the ranch resort. The original buildings for the Flying L Guest Ranch were designed by Frank Lloyd Wright associates, and the Lapham’s Lodge features touches of those original designs. Mr. Urbanek is himself a follower of Frank Lloyd’s work and designs and is excited about this project.
Buck Shannon, Flying L’s Entertainment Director, spoke about the rich history of the ranch resort and the Bandera area. Guests could land their private planes on the landing strip, pick up their room keys at the Pilot’s Lounge, and taxi their plane over and park in front of their own Villa. The ranch resort also featured pilot’s lessons, tested new airplane designs, and hosted guest such as John Wayne and Slim Pickens. The Flying L Guest Ranch website gives a great history at www.flyingl.com.
The new Lapham’s Lodge, located next to the Pilot’s Lounge, will feature 10 bedrooms with private baths, a large great room capable of hosting business events, family reunions, church groups, and other gatherings. The full kitchen will allow groups to prepare meals and snacks for themselves if they wish. Lapham’
