NEW YORK - Jan. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Jeff Slate, founder and frontman for beloved indie outfit, The Badge, and the already legendary Birds of Paradox, will play Joe’s Pub on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at 9:30 PM.  The show will celebrate the music of Bob Dylan, featuring a setlist of the legend’s least-known but greatest songs.

Earl Slick, the legendary guitarist who has toured the world with David Bowie and has appeared on many Bowie albums from 1974s David Live! through to 2013s The Next Day, and who played on John Lennon’s last recording sessions, will lend his signature licks to Slate’s all star band in much the same way the legendary Mick Ronson – whom Slick replaced with Bowie in 1974 – did on Bob Dylan’s Rolling Thunder Review tour.  Slick also appeared on Slate’s 2010 single Dreamtime.  Steve Holley, who played drums in Wings from 1978-1981,and who appeared on Slate’s Birds of Paradox album and is a regular in Slate’s live band, will play drums.

Slate’s first solo-project LP release Birds of Paradox was released on October 9, 2012, with a sold out  album release party at Joe’s Pub in New York City.  The album has seen strong sales and glowing reviews and has been called “the best Tom Petty album since Wildflowers” in the press.  In November Slate released Imposters & Attractions: Music Inspired By Elvis Costello, featuring ten original compositions and two Costello classics, free at www.jeffslate.net and via iTunes, Amazon and other digital retail and streaming services.

Jon Friedman, the author of the recent Bob Dylan biography Forget About Today: Bob Dylan’s Genius for (Re)invention, Shunning the Naysayers, and Creating a Personal Revolution, recently wrote of Slate:

“If you want to understand what makes Jeff Slate tick, just watch him perform in concert. It's all you really need to know about him as a bandleader, guitarist and singer.

“His love of the life and the work comes across in his music. When I caught Jeff at a late-night gig here in New York City last summer, I was reminded, once again, by the sheer therapeutic power of music to make people feel happy -- that is, when the sound is in the hands of someone who loves what he is doing and wants to make a crowd happy. He wasn't mailing it in. He was playing for keeps. Listen to his music. It comes across on his recordings, too.

“It's called authenticity, which is a rare quality -- in any field -- in this digital culture of ours. When you spot it, you know what it is.

“So many people are content just to get by on flash. So, when you watch Jeff play, you know he means it. You know something? That is reason enough to give him a listen. But it's not the only one, of course. The man's music takes care of the rest.”

Jeff Slate (vocals, guitar) is a singer/songwriter from New York City.  He co-founded the 1980’s mod/punk band the Mindless Thinkers, who were mainstays on the Northeast college circuit.  In the mid-90’s he released The Townshend Tapes, on which The Who’s Pete Townshend acted as Executive Producer, and opened for Sheryl Crow on her “Tuesday Night Music Club” tour.  In 1997 he founded the band The Badge, who released four albums and countless singles, EPs and live “bootleg” sets and went on to become darlings of the UK/European “mod” scene in the 2000’s.  In 2010 Jeff released the single Dreamtime, which featured Earl Slick (Lennon, Bowie) and Carlos Alomar (Bowie, Lennon).  Birds of Paradox, his first solo album of original material was released in 2012.  It was followed in November 2013 by Imposters & Attractions.  Jeff has appeared on television and radio numerous times and his songs have appeared in network television shows and major motion pictures.  Jeff proudly endorses Gibson/Epiphone guitars, Hofner basses and Vox amps.
