Help Us Survive Through March 2014

MINNEAPOLIS - Dec. 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Hi. My name is Katy and, until August 2013, I was a successfully self-employed individual. I was a consultant for a Fortune 100 company under my former employer - until he decided to pull the project from me without warning.

Unfortunately, the unemployment insurance I was paying did not cover me as the owner of the company (apparently, I failed to check a particular box requesting that I be covered...even though I had been paying all these months). I was refunded what I had paid in, but that only got us by for another month.

My husband and I wittled down our expenses as best we could. We pulled our daughter out of after-school activities. We have been shopping at the dollar store for our toiletries and I've been cooking whole chickens that I get for half price when they are on sale at the grocery store.

I took a position that requires me to work weekends, which I happily do to try to make a dent in our bills. Unfortunately, my first paycheck - which I was counting on for groceries - was gobbled up by our health insurance premium...leaving our account in the negative.

I was finally able to secure a job doing what I did as a consultant (thanks to the positive references from that client to my new employer), but I do not start until January 20th -- at a significantly lower pay rate that what I've been accustomed to this past decade.  With our bills piling up and my new position still a ways out, I am afraid that there is no end in sight to our mounting debt.
