SalmoCef Tablets

Cefixime is a third generation cephalosporin which is available in various forms. It is given in the form of tablets, capsules and injections. It is a broad spectrum antibiotic that is it is active against wide range of bacteria. It kills bacteria like Enterobacteriaceae and also all the strains producing beta-lactamase.
Mechanism of action
It words by inhibiting the cell wall synthesis. This cephalosporin attaches itself to pencillin binding proteins site and stop the final step of bacterial cell wall synthesis. This disrupts the entire process and leads to the death of bacteria.
Absorption
Around 40-50% of cefaxime is absorbed through the GI tract. The rest is excreted unchanged in urine. The absorption decreases when taken with food. Oral suspensions work more fast as compared to tablets. High concentration is found in bile and urine.
