Initially a team of three students S.Dhiran, C.Dheekshana and R.Sanjesh from Yuvabharathi Public School have won the first prize in the preliminary event “Indian Robot Olympiad”, the finals of which was held at New Delhi on 15th September 2013 with a model of robot on the theme - “Conservation of Western Ghats” that would aid in forest conservation, preserve nature and save environment.
Yuvabharathi Public School students took the guidance and advice from the former Indian President Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam before participating in World Robotic Olympiad 2013. Adding up to a total of more than 1200 participants, 392 teams at various levels from 37 different countries have participated in this mega event. There were four different categories, Open category, Regular category, Gen II Football and College Category.Yuvabharathi Public School participated in the Open Category and has secured the 17th position out of 97 competing teams in this category.
Yuvabharathi Public School's theme was “Saving India's Western Ghats through Green Robulation”. The project was entitled “Project Forest Loon” which is a development and a protection project. The ultimate aim of this project is to spread awareness about the conservation of a World heritage site, one of the "Hottest hotspots" of biological diversity of the world, the Western Ghats. The three students have initiated the "Green Robolution” which is a very effective venture that helps in afforestation and protecting the wildlife of the Western Ghats from poachers and hunters with the help of a robot.
The students have designed this robot that helps preserve the forests and restore the Western Ghats. The real challenge was students had to build the robot and program it in the competition area within a limited time which is two and half hours. The robot is mobile-operated and GPS controlled.
This is a fantastic achievement and Yuvabharathi Public School is very proud of this team who took part in this most coveted event for Robotics. This provided an opportunity to display that Yuvabharathi Public School is not only a highly accredited CBSE School in India, but it is also global in its outreach and innovative in its teaching methodologies.
Participating in such global competitions gives Yuvabharathi Public School students a chance to enhance their skills and capabilities, as well as keep pace with the latest trends in robotics programming. Besides, this participation has given the students the ideal opportunity to gain self-confidence and complete projects that support their academic success. It was truly a great experience for them. They learnt to work as a team, make quick decisions, meet new people from various parts of the world with different cultures and got a chance to see different robots made by professionals and other contestants.
