GREATER KAILASH, India - Dec. 25, 2013 - PRLog -- The recent statement by a former judge that it is customary to drink wine during Christmas has not gone well with the doctors. For Indian people, alcohol in any form and in any quantity has not been proven to be safe.
Thought there are western studies which link moderate consumption of alcohol with cardiovascular benefits, the only and the largest study from Jaipur in India does not approve the same, said Padma Shri & Dr. B C Roy National Awardee, Dr. K K Aggarwal, President Heart Care Foundation of India.
Dr. Aggarwal said that in the Indian study, alcohol, even in moderate amounts, was linked with more heart attacks and high blood pressure.
No amount of alcohol is similarly safe for the liver. But in most Indians having pot belly obesity and fatty liver, alcohol can cause further damage to liver.
The recommended safe limit for alcohol is less than 30ml in one hour, not more than 60ml in a day and 3 days in a week at least of complete alcohol.
Brandy, whiskey, vodka and gin all contain 40% alcohol and have the same health implications. It is also a misconception that alcohol reduces winter-related cold and hypothermia.
Dr. Aggarwal said that as of today there is no medical indication that people could start social drinking for health benefits.
