Altura Wine & Gourmet Opens in Old Town Alexandria

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Dec. 24, 2013 - PRLog -- Located on Patrick and King Streets, Altura Wine & Gourmet - a boutique shop with a robust selection of off the beaten path wines – opened its doors this week.  The store’s casual yet elegant vibe is an inviting space for neighborhood patrons looking for the special bottle of wine (or beer) that perfectly complements their meal.

The wine selection focuses on offerings from small producers and ranges from well-known French producers to less widely available Italian gems.  Each bottle was handpicked based and selected because it is one of the best in its class and offers the customer exceptional value, such as Colosi  Nero D’Avola ($16.00).

There are daily wine samplings opportunities, with a focus on blind tastings, also known as a brown bag tasting where the bottle’s label is obscured to prevent it swaying the palate.  The shop also features an intimate tasting room, and classes will be offered starting in January.

Additionally, there is an extensive selection of gourmet food, with a focus on products from fellow start-ups.  Some of the products featured are The Jam Stand’s Blue-berry Bourbon Jam ($10.35), Sea Bear’s Pacific Alaska Smoked Salmon ($11.50), and Fermin’s Serrano ham ($6.00).
